June 2023 Watercolors and Coloring Book Pages

Coloring Book Progress, Watercolor-ing, and Recovery

June started off busy with me reorganizing my room and donating things in preparation for my ankle surgery. It was a good process of giving things away and actually cataloging the things that I have. Especially in regards to my art and crafting supplies. No surprise that I have a lot of these supplies, but even though I have a lot of art supplies, I’m still collecting new ones.

This month I wanted to do more experimentation with alcohol markers. These are still new to me and I’m still trying to figure out techniques that work for me. The lighthouse drawing in my gallery was pure technique experimentation. I found that these layer well without reactivating the bottom colors so my first foray into alcohol markers was pretty rough. I do like the graphic leaves and landscape but the rest of the drawing was too overworked and chaotic. I think for me, with these markers, simple is better until I get a hang of them. I am going to experiment with using alcohol markers with watercolors to check out if they will play nice with each other.

I made progress on my coloring book pages and art samples for the book. I only have to draw seven more pages with some art samples then I will get it published. Either from a locally owned publisher or via Amazon publishing. I’ll have to do research on both. My friend who is a writer is using the locally owned publishing company, and my sister & niece are using Amazon. I may do both. This may happen at the end of the month - still a goal but recovery from ankle surgery then going back to work was a bit hard.

Last week (June 26), I returned to work because I was now in a boot and was able to bear weight on my ankle. (Thank goodness!) So I was able to drive and get around on my own. But work was incredibly busy after three weeks away. However, after work during that first week back, I was very, very tired and needed naps when i got home. These naps were good but it curtailed my art activities. This past week was much better. My ankle is healing up well and now I can’t wait to get out of the boot - which hopefully will happen at the end of July.

New art prints will be available at the end of the month. They’re ordered and on there way to me.

I will be uploading my artwork and coloring pages on my Patreon for download by my Patrons. I have two levels: Coffee tier $5 per month for digital art lovers, and Latte tier $10 per month for digital downloads and 2 prints. Check out my Patreon at www.Patreon.com/GemmaGeluzDesigns.com.
