Another busy month: work-life balance + ankle surgery

My work-life balance got a bit off balance this month. I had to get ready for medical leave for ankle surgery so I was spending a lot of time at work, thinking of work, and worrying about work. I also had to think about how was going to get around my house as I would not be able to use my left ankle. So I embarked on a reorganization and purging project of clothes and shoes. It was a good thing, as Martha says, to give away things that I wasn’t using and that I wasn’t in love with. Of course, I still have more to pare down but I donated quite of bit of stuff. It actually was very rewarding.

My ankle tendons are now repaired but will take two weeks before I can put weight on it. I’m glad I got them fixed but I do have to say that enforced bed rest and crutches are not my thing. I’m thankful that I got some ocean time and got to go to this year’s Bouquets to Art at the De Young. (More on that on my blog.)

As to art and my coloring book project, I was inspired to do color samples for the coloring book. I really like how the samples came out, especially Under the Lily Pads. The vibrancy of Sky Full of Clouds was created by coloring in the sky then adding details to the clouds with no linework around them. For this one and California Green Hills, I experimented on using minimal outlining - just using the colors to define the shapes. Ocean Bloom is controlled chaos - full of small details that took some time. (I didn’t complete this until after surgery so I will need to scan it at a later date when I’m more mobile.)

I will be uploading my artwork and coloring pages on my Patreon for download by my Patrons. I have two levels: Coffee tier $5 per month for digital art lovers, and Latte tier $10 per month for digital downloads and 2 prints. Check out my Patreon at www.Patreon.com/GemmaGeluzDesigns.com.
